The Book of Matthew

Studying the Book of Matthew, the first book in the New Testament, can give you a better understanding and appreciation for the way the Christian is linked to the faith of Abraham with whom God first established His Blood Covenant. Notice that when Matthew begins his Gospel by tracing the genealogy of Jesus to Abraham, a man of faith, Matthew was establishing faith as the basis of the New Covenant that Jesus would bring.

Matthew was a Jew, a son of Abraham and of the Old Covenant and he wrote about Jesus in a way that Israel, God’s covenant people, could start with their father Abraham and come all the way through the generations to Jesus’ birth and life and see that He is the Son of the Living God, the long awaited Messiah that Abraham, by faith, had seen coming to His people.

Matthew’s account of the Sermon on the Mount reveals the principles behind the rules and regulations, and the Ten Commandments, under the Law of Moses. It is by these principles that we can live our faith. Finally, and very importantly, one of the most notable things in the Book of Matthew is Jesus, born under the Old Covenant, restoring miracles to it, and showing us that if God did such mighty miracles under the Old Covenant, how much more would He do miracles under the New Covenant that Jesus would bring into being through His sacrificial death on the cross!
